Message From the Superintendent...
After several months of soliciting input and discussing various options, the Holden R-III Board of Education made the decision to ask district patrons to support a debt service tax levy increase for the purpose of renovating, repairing and replacing district facilities.
Proposed Renovations and Repairs Include:
* New middle school roof;
* Elementary, high school & agriculture building roof repairs;
* Middle school and elementary entrance renovations for security purposes;
* Lighting, electrical, technology and energy efficiency upgrades;
* Physical education/athletic practice/locker room building;
* In addition to a variety of other projects.
Over the years, the Board has made every effort to support student achievement and maintain the buildings and grounds of the district while increasing taxes as little as possible. Because of the Board’s philosophy of raising taxes only when absolutely necessary, they have held taxes down and saved district patrons approximately $2 million in tax dollars. By refinancing existing bonds, they have saved taxpayers over a half million dollars in future bond payments. However, costs for needed renovations and repairs are exceeding the funding capabilities of the district, therefore the decision has been made to ask for the funds necessary to make these renovations.
The Board completely understands the current economic condition many are faced with, but also understands the importance of providing a quality education, a safe educational environment, and opportunities for students to be successful. The April 6 election will provide the opportunity for parents, community members, and district patrons to make the decision on increasing taxes to pay for renovations, repairs, and replacement of facilities in the Holden R-III School District.
Mike Ringen,
Superintendent
